October 12, 2005 - BusinessHere and CarTunes on Parade Partner for Public Art Auction
DETROIT, Oct. 18, 2005 — Metro Detroiters or anyone with an Internet connection are now able to bid on and bring home a piece of Motor City art history. Beginning Oct. 12, the car-shaped sculptures exhibited in the Detroit-Windsor “CarTunes on Parade” public art project and their models, will be available for purchase through an online auction at www.CarTunesOnParadeAuction.com. The sculptures will also be on display for a live auction Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the GM Wintergarden in the General Motors Renaissance Center.Proceeds from the sale of each sculpture will be divided evenly with one-third benefiting the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit’s YArts program or the Windsor Endowment for the Arts, one-third benefiting a local charity selected by the winning bidder and one-third paid to the artist who created the piece. Proceeds from the sale of each model will be divided between the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and the artist.
“The CarTunes on Parade project was unique and exciting because it brought attention to the wonderful things happening in Detroit and the importance of the arts,” said Reid Thebault, CEO of the YMCA of Metro Detroit. “Through the auction, local residents can not only participate in the growth of Detroit, but can also support the arts community.”
The online auction and payment processing for the live auction are being managed by BusinessHere Inc., which conducts public art auctions for clients worldwide. The live auction will be conducted by Steven Gross of Premier Auction Services with the assistance of Local 4 News Anchor and Reporter Kori Chambers, WOMC Midday Host Dana Masucci, Windsor Star Columnist Karen Hall and AM800 Municipal Affairs Reporter Patty Handisides.
Tickets for the live auction cost $10 and are available at the door or online at www.CarTunesOnParadeAuction.com.
